LARRY BECK

This is not really my photo, but that of Geronimo, a Bedonkohe Apache leader of the Chiricahua Apache, who led his people's defense of their homeland against the military might of the United States.  He died in US military custody in 1879, far from his Southwest American homeland.  On his deathbed he is reported to have said: "I should have never surrendered. I should have fought until I was the last man alive."

HARD LEFT TURN is my best effort to keep on fighting for a better human condition on the planet we share.  I encourage others to use this platform to contribute to this cause.

    US APOLOGIZES

A repentant US President Trump apologized to the world today on the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks for now 18 years of indiscriminate killing of men, women, and children in an international effort to make the US feel better about itself.  Trump was quick to add that most of the killings were Obama's fault and that only he had the insight to understand the error of the nation's chosen path to redemption.

A RESOLUTE PATH TO A BETTER AMERICA

Watching the exposure of the ugly underbelly of the American “dream” on full display in the impeachment hearings has been reaffirming for those of us in the body politic who have long thought that self-delusion, rather than freedom an...

AWASH IN A SEA OF HYPOCRISY

Cradled in the midst of all that is wrong with Trump and his silent and venal Republican accomplices is more hypocrisy than one essay could ever capture.  But I am going try.  To hit the ground running, racism is a good place to start....

A CORRUPT ENTERPRISE WON THE DAY

When a government fails to meaningfully respond to the carnage in its streets, every citizen should question the competence and corruption of those charged with the governmental responsibility to act, as well as the legitimacy of the gov...

    PERSPECTIVE FROM AFAR

Imagine a place where people seem to enjoy meeting in cafes, bars, and restaurants to talk with each other, connecting with other human beings to enjoy the moment.  Imagine casual eye contact like it used to be.  Imagine Spain.  I recently got back...

CAN AMERICA BEGIN TO FIND ITS WAY?

Here comes the cavalry, maybe.  A US House of Representatives controlled by the Democratic Party is empowered to start the ball rolling on addressing America’s real needs and to change the dynamic of a government now in full retreat fr...

    COLLECTIVE COMA OVERWHELMS COLLECTIVE CONSCIENCE

I happen to like to listen to country music, Christian preaching, evangelical problem-solving, and right-wing radio.  So, I had a lot to listen to on my recent solo car and camping journey through West Virginia, Kentucky,...

PLANNING FOR A PROGRESSIVE BLUE STATE FUTURE

I have been thinking a lot lately about the state of the states in America.  For now, the nation is stuck with a Constitution that created a federation of states with a central federal government of limited powers.  While thi...

A NATION AWASH IN A SEA OF IGNORANCE

The word “deplorable” got its own place in political lore when Hillary Clinton decided to create a “basket of deplorables” chock full of people who were buying so much of what Trump was selling in the 2016 presidential election.*  No...

    KIDS CONFRONT AMERICA’S GUN CULTURE

The day before 800,000 or so of their constituents showed up in Washington, DC for the recent March for Our Lives, the US Congress recessed yet again and left town.  At the same time, Trump fled to his golf course in Florida, not far...

    POPPING THE BIG TRUMP BALLOON*

National parades are a big deal all over the globe.  So it only seems fitting that America, the self-proclaimed grandest nation on earth, should have the grandest parade.  Competition is tough, with Russia, North Korea, Macy’s, France and...
